The Multidirectional Villa

[4th year MArch (prof) project]

Design studio run by Andrew Barrie and Momoyo Kaijima/Atelier Bow Wow of Japan.Urban context was taken into consideration with ideas based on Atelier Bow Wow's principles of 'Behaviourology' [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Atelier_Bow-Wow] to create a harmonious response to current urban and social issues.  All members of this studio designed with an awareness of each other, as all sites were located on one street of Auckland's suburb of Ponsonby.  The brief indicated the need to introduce a secondary function to the house in order to promote human interaction. This villa design deals with issues of increasing density within limited space and the effects of boundary, while containing the secondary function of a neighbourhood tea house.
